Ear, Nose and Throat Misdiagnosis Claims
ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) doctors deal with an area of the body that is home to some of the most delicate parts of the human anatomy, all in close proximity, so precision in diagnosis and the carrying out of procedures is paramount. Depending on the nature of the suspected issue, a variety of tests are likely to be carried out including scans, X-rays, biopsies, blood tests and more, but sometimes these tests are not carried out, and sometimes analysing the results of these tests can provide confusing results. In some cases this means that serious illnesses can go untreated because doctors didn’t recognise the symptoms.
Take the case of a 25-year-old woman from Chelmsford, Essex who visited her GP complaining of nose bleeds. The GP and the local ENT department continued to treat the bleeding with cauterisation – targeted burning of the flesh to stop the bleeding – for over a year before she visited another hospital where a CT scan showed a tumour the size of a strawberry. She was then diagnosed with ACC (Adenoids Cystic Carcinoma) and needed almost half of her face removed and then rebuilt. This rare type of cancer is only seen in around one in a million people, and so most surgeons will only see one or two cases in their entire career.
Her case is yet to be heard, but in such situations who should you turn to for help?
Our highly experienced solicitors are not easily shocked after many years of successfully prosecuting cases of medical and particularly ENT negligence and misdiagnosis. When you contact us we will use our years of experience alongside employing medical specialists to go through every minute detail to uncover where the mistakes took place, and who was responsible. In some cases misdiagnosis can involve failing to notice specific symptoms, in other cases it can involve failures on the part of the medical team to correctly identify what is causing problems, either through unfamiliarity, or sometimes because they did not perform certain tests at the appropriate time.
No matter how the situation has occurred, if you or someone you care for has suffered as a result of ENT misdiagnosis you should contact us and let us see how we can help you get the compensation you deserve.
